WORKSHOPS

MoMA & DearTomorrow

Transformative workshops for public school teachers.

The Story

New York City’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) invited DearTomorrow to lead professional development for public school teachers.

DearTomorrow led workshops for K-12 educators and high school teachers, using our signature future imagining framework. The workshops set out to explore the climate crisis and young people’s mental health, and integrate artmaking and creativity into conversations about climate change and social issues.

The Outcome

After participating in the session, one incredible teacher at Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School activated her entire school using the DearTomorrow methodology.

Each student wrote their personal DearTomorrow letter, before crafting them into poems. These were transformed into choral pieces, filmed, and staged for their entire school community.

Students took on every role, including writing, performing, set design, and production. With help from Smash Arts Productions — a student-centered theatre company — and mentorship from the Roundabout Theatre Company, students explored how to find the emotional truth in their words and performances. The result was a moving production attended by the entire school and their families.

The Impact

The activation was a powerful reminder of what happens when young people are given the tools to imagine and perform their own future.

Each and every one of the teachers participating in the MoMA workshops left feeling inspired and with ideas on how to use the DearTomorrow methodology within their classrooms.
