PARTNERSHIP

DearTomorrow & Low Carbon City

A year-long collaboration bringing the DearTomorrow approach to Medellín, Colombia.

The Story

At the heart of this Latin American collaboration is Low Carbon City (LCC), a vibrant Medellín-based organization that works at the intersection of climate action, creativity, and community. In 2024, LCC and DearTomorrow teamed up to adapt our model for Latin American audiences, co-creating a regional strategy grounded in local language, culture, and real-life experiences.

Our partnership with LCC started inside the DearTomorrow Climate Arts Incubator, where we designed the project together.

The Outcome

In a deeply moving workshop in Medellín, 220 children from an under-resourced neighborhood were invited to participate in an artful future imagining session. Through games, drawings, and guided reflections, they explored the question: What does a good future look like for you and your community?

This event reflected the power of climate storytelling at its most accessible – giving children a chance to dream, reflect, and share their visions in ways that felt joyful and empowering.

LCC organized a public activation that brought a future-facing conversation to the streets to reach adults in their 20s and 30s. Passersby were invited to engage with prompts on climate change, write their own letters to the future, and reflect on how their choices shape the world to come.

The interaction brought discussions of the climate crisis into everyday life, creating spontaneous, meaningful moments of reflection in public space.

Each year, Low Carbon City hosts the Low Carbon City World Forum on climate solutions for collective action from citizens, governments, companies, universities and media outlets. In 2024, DearTomorrow was front-and-center with a co-designed installation and program. People from across Latin America interacted with personal letters, postcards, and storytelling prompts in a space that emphasized emotional connection across generations.

The program culminated in the Ecos Latinos of Climate Action award (Ecos Latinos de Acción Climática), presented by DearTomorrow and Low Carbon City, as well as a mapping tool that showcases grassroots innovation. The winners were announced on a celebratory webinar, bringing global visibility to local climate creativity and leadership.

The Impact

The hundreds of conversations, stories, and letters created from our collaboration reflect a shared truth: Latin America is not waiting for change. It is actively shaping a future that is bold, inclusive, and full of heart.

Our multi-faceted and long-running collaboration with Low Carbon City provides a model for long-term, creative change, reaching thousands and actively engaging hundreds of motivated citizens to carry the torch for all our tomorrows.
